When is the Sabbath Day?

There are approximately ten Bible passages that say the Sabbath is on the seventh day but when is “the” seventh day? (Genesis 2:3; Exodus 20:8-11; Scriptures) Most will tell you it is the day we call Saturday and they would be correct according to both scripture and history. Some however will say that the Sabbath was changed to Sunday in honour of the resurrection but no scripture specifically says so and Acts 20:7 is an erroneous assumption. And very recently some have begun spreading a new heresy stating that the Sabbath is based on the lunar cycle and so is not necessarily Saturday or Sunday.

Satan is the author of confusion and he knows his time is running short and so many new heretical doctrines are beginning to surface in all areas in which our adversary needs to keep us deceived and the Sabbath is one such end time deception.

In the world today a day begins and ends at midnight but it was man who decided this was when a new day was to begin and was not God's plan. God said a new day begins and ends in the evening at sunset. (Genesis 1:5; Leviticus 23:32) Hence the Sabbath is from sunset on Friday evening until sunset on Saturday evening using the pagan day name. And by Biblical Hebrew names, it starts from sunset on the preparation day (sixth day) and ends at sunset on the Sabbath. (seventh day)

The expression the evening and morning was the Biblical language used by the Hebrew people to express a 24 hour period we call a day. When it says evening, it refers to the 12 hour period following. And the same applies to morning. It refers to the 12 hour period following. And so we find Daniel uses the same expression referring to an entire 24 hour period.

Genesis 1:5 “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

Daniel 8:26 “And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut you up the vision; for it shall be for many days.”

“and the evening and the morning were the first day: the evening, the first part of the night, or darkness, put for the whole night, which might be about the space of twelve hours; and the morning, which was the first part of the day, or light, put also for the whole, which made the same space, and both together one natural day, consisting of twenty four hours;”

“first day — a natural day, as the mention of its two parts clearly determines; and Moses reckons, according to Oriental usage, from sunset to sunset, saying not day and night as we do, but evening and morning.”

Note that in Biblical times the names of the days of the week were numbered around the seventh day Sabbath. Hence scriptures like Matthew 28:1 that say “first day of the week” in reality say “first day after the Sabbath.” The Greek for “first day of the week” is “mia” (first) “ho he to” (of the) “sabbaton” (Sabbath). The word day is added so the phrase more accurately translates to “first of the Sabbath” which for clarity would be translated as “first day of the week” or even “first day after the Sabbath.” Note Gill's Commentary on Matthew 28:1.

In over one hundred nations around the world today, Saturday is still called the Sabbath in the corresponding language. This dates back to the tower of Babel in Genesis 11:1-9 and also proves the Sabbath falls on the day that we call Saturday. So those who mock God by saying we do not know what day it is or claim the day is according to the lunar cycle are in error and use eisegesis just as much as those who say the Sabbath was abolished at the cross. Careful Biblical exegesis of the texts from those teaching this heresy quickly exposes their attempt to cover the truth. Every dictionary and encyclopaedia I checked also confirms when the Sabbath day is and all agree on sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. I have never found one source that claims it is by the lunar cycle or lunar calendar as one deceived group are now pushing very hard. This is a new heresy so be careful you do not get caught up in this lie. Those deceived are pushing it very hard even to the point of paid advertisements. Satan does not procrastinate when trying to spread a new heresy. When there is so much confusion and so many contradictions you know the author of confusion, being Satan, is behind it and this Commandment which God wrote in stone is very important. The Bible says the Sabbath is on “THE” Seventh day more than ten times. That is more than adequate confirmation that it is every seven days and lunar Sabbaths are heresy.

You do not need a calendar to count to seven!

God's people and the Jews have been counting of every seven days for thousands of years and have never missed a day. The sequence of days of the week has also never changed. God's people have been faithfully counting of every seven days since the very first Seventh day God blessed and sanctified. Never has the sequence of days been lost.

Notice how they named the days of the week in the first three entries of the above table. The names of the days as seen in the table prove that the Sabbath is every seven days and falls on “THE” Seventh day being the day we call Saturday. Remember that this seven day sequence as seen in the above table can be traced back to Genesis 11 where God confused the languages. And so the Seventh day that we call Saturday is still called the Sabbath in over 100 languages around the world today just as it was in the time of Genesis 11. It has never changed for all these thousands of years. And if that were not the case, then all through the Old Testament and right though to Christ and beyond, every single person totalling trillions of people would have had the wrong day. Does God give a Commandment and have everyone keeping the wrong day for thousands of years and yet not say a word? Such thinking mocks God and lacks wisdom.

Did you see God send a message through any of His prophets to tell His people in Old Testament times them they had the wrong day? No? Neither did I.

And did you see Christ tell everyone that they had the wrong day for nearly 4000 years when He came? No? Hmmm, neither did I.

Why was there total silence? Because every one of these people from all of these nations, that all through time, and to this very day, which have being keeping the Sabbath on the day we call Saturday were never in error. This is a recent heresy and I pray that you do not get caught up in it.

So let's go though the facts again and keep this simple. It is the SEVENTH DAY Sabbath. That means it is every SEVEN DAYS! Can we count to SEVEN? Of course! Because it does not require ANY TYPE OF CALENDAR to count to SEVEN.

Lunar sabbaths is a fairly recent end time deception made up by one deceived person and has been slowly spread by the deceived ever since. And it was inspired by Satan to cost you the kingdom by trying to keep you from the true Sabbath.

Now do not miss this:

In over 100 languages, the day we call Saturday is still call Sabbath in those languages. That goes back to Genesis 11. Did you get that? Even today, the day we call Saturday is called the SABBATH in all those languages. This goes back to Genesis 11 when God confused the languages.

So if lunar sabbaths was true, or we had the wrong day, then that dates all the way back to Genesis and EVERYONE FOR THE LAST 6000 YEARS have been keeping the wrong day, including the Jews and even Jesus and the disciples! Hence lunar Sabbaths is a fools path and a recent end time deception. It is not the lunar sabbath, it is the Seventh day Sabbath!

Calendars are not relevant or required for the Sabbath and never will be. What day did the first Sabbath fall on?

Genesis 2:2 “And on the SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”

Genesis 2:3 “And God blessed the SEVENTH DAY, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

The Seventh day! And then every seventh day after that. Scripture specifically states the Sabbath is on the Seventh day! There is NO Scripture that calls the Sabbath the lunar Sabbath. None!

Exodus 16:26 “...but on the SEVENTH DAY, which is the sabbath...”

Exodus 16:29 “...the LORD has given you the sabbath...on the SEVENTH DAY.”

Exodus 20:10 “...the SEVENTH DAY is the sabbath of the LORD your God...”

Exodus 20:11 “...rested the SEVENTH DAY...the LORD blessed the sabbath day...”

Exodus 31:15 “...THE SEVENTH is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD...”

Exodus 35:2 “...the SEVENTH DAY...an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD...”

Leviticus 23:3 “...the seventh day...is the sabbath of the LORD...”

Deuteronomy 5:14 “...the SEVENTH DAY is the sabbath of the LORD your God...”

Surely we know what the word seventh means. Right?

And did you ever hear the excuse by those who do not want to keep the Sabbath? “Could we have lost the true Sabbath day?” And the answer that all Sabbath keepers should know is: “not unless every Jew on the planet slept in for an entire day an no one told them about it.”

So in most languages in the world today what we call Saturday is still called the Sabbath! That means even when Christ walked the earth that the day we call Saturday was still called the Sabbath even then! Has everyone on the planet had the wrong day since Genesis and even when Christ was here and still today? And if that were the case, then God never used a prophet to tell His people they were ALL wrong!

And what about Christ? Not even Christ told us or His disciples we had the wrong day? That really mocks God and His Son! And that of course would have meant that even Christ Himself had the wrong day! And that would mean Christ did not care what day either. What an absurd thought!

So let me say it again. If you can count to seven you are good! You do NO need a calendar for that.

The following quotes are provided for Seventh day Adventists or those who follow the Spirit of Prophecy. They refute the Wednesday crucifixion theory as well as the Lunar Sabbath heresy which is just another end time deception taught by people who also claim the earth is flat!
“The Father and the Son rested after their work of creation. “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all the work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it he had rested.” The death of Christ was designed to be at the very time in which it took place. It was in God's plan that the work which Christ had engaged to do should be completed on a Friday, and that on the Sabbath He should rest in the tomb, even as the Father and the Son had rested after completing Their creative work. The hour of Christ's apparent defeat was the hour of His victory. The great plan, devised before the foundations of the earth were laid, was successfully carried out.” — (E.G. And the following quote completes the three days.
“The night of the first day of the week had worn slowly away. The darkest hour, just before daybreak, had come. Christ was still a prisoner in His narrow tomb. The great stone was in its place; the Roman seal was unbroken; the Roman guards were keeping their watch. And there were unseen watchers. Hosts of evil angels were gathered about the place. Had it been possible, the prince of darkness with his apostate army would have kept forever sealed the tomb that held the Son of God. But a heavenly host surrounded the sepulcher. Angels that excel in strength were guarding the tomb, and waiting to welcome the Prince of life.” — (E.G. White, DA 779.1)
And the last two state the crucifixion was on Friday the sixth day of the week.
“The Saviour was buried on Friday, the sixth day of the week. The women prepared spices and ointments with which to embalm their Lord, and laid them aside, until the Sabbath was past. Not even the work of embalming the body of Jesus would they do upon the Sabbath day.” — (E.G. White, SJ 157.3)
“On the sixth day of the week they had seen their Master die; on the first day of the next week they found themselves deprived of His body, and they were accused of having stolen it away for the sake of deceiving the people.” — (E.G. White, DA 794.2)

The three following points all confirm when the Sabbath is.

1. The Jews have been keeping the Sabbath every seventh day on Saturday for more than three thousand years before the cross and still are right to this very day. Jesus of course was a Jew and there was no conflict with the Pharisees who were always looking for a way to condemn Christ. They condemned Jesus on how He kept the Sabbath but there was never any conflict as to which day was being kept.

2. More than one hundred nations around the world call every seventh day the Sabbath in their language and this always falls on the day we call Saturday. God certainly would have instructed the prophets to inform even one nation if they had the wrong day yet alone all nations. Scripture is totally silent regarding a change because the Sabbath has always fallen on every seventh day and on the day we call Saturday.

3. And of course scripture also reveals that the Sabbath is Saturday. Note carefully that Luke shows it falls between what we call Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Here is the same passage from the Good News Bible for further clarity of the day names. Note that while the world uses the pagan name Easter, God will not be pleased if we use this name.

Thus we know when the Sabbath day is by: (1) the day the Jews have always kept (2) Saturday being called the Sabbath in over one hundred nations (3) and scripture states it very clearly.
